Event Description

Join Dr. Barry Forer, HELP Research Methodologist and the Scientific Lead for Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (CHEQ), along with other HELP staff for a special webinar, CHEQ Trends & Connections with the EDI. This event will explore CHEQ data collected in fall 2022, as well as over the last four years, and what it reveals about the experiences of young children and their families across BC. Attendees will also learn about HELP research linking CHEQ and Early Development Instrument (EDI) data and what we are learning about the relationships between early experiences prior to the start of school and the developmental outcomes of children in kindergarten.

About the CHEQ

The Childhood Experiences Questionnaire (CHEQ) is used to collect information on children’s experiences in their early environments. It is completed by parents and caregivers at the start of their child’s kindergarten school year. The CHEQ covers five domains strongly linked to children’s health and well-being, learning and social outcomes: Physical Health & Well-being, Language & Cognition, Social & Emotional Experiences, Early Learning & Care, and Community & Context. CHEQ data provides an overview of children’s experiences prior to the start of school and the frequency of those experiences.

If you were unable to attend the webinar, a recording of the event is now available for your viewing below. The presentation slides, along with links to resources (see last slide) shared during the webinar, are also available.
